On June
25, 2011, Victoria Olszowy became the 35th student in Chris Collins
Dance Studio’s history to earn the title “Student of the Year”.
Victoria
Olszowy has been a part of Chris Collins Dance Studio since she was three years
old. She started out in our morning classes at the Dale City Recreation
Center. After a couple years, teachers noticed her natural ability and as a new
young company group was formed she was invited to be a part of it.
Over the
years, Victoria has been an extremely dedicated student. When her family moved
to Stafford she continued to dance in Dale City. When dance classes were no
longer offered at the Dale City location, she started making the trip to
Alexandria several times a week. Victoria even added an extra day of dance, so
that she could assist with some of our younger classes. She makes the trip
from Stafford to Alexandria (over an hour and a half, round trip), 5 days a
week!
In
every class subject, Victoria strives to be her best. Through many illnesses
she has continued to persevere. As a teenager, she has not only made major
commitment to our dance company but also is a volunteer student teacher
throughout the year and during summer Princess Camps. She is an excellent role
model and an inspiration to our younger students. She continues to put her
heart, soul, and endless hours into dance.
Victoria will receive
the prestigious Bill Collins Scholarship (named after Chris Collins'
father), along with her title of "Student of the Year". The scholarship awards
Victoria with free tuition for the 2011-2012 dance year. Bill Collins was a man
with a true love for the arts, and a keen eye for talent and responsibility -
Victoria would have made Mr. Bill very proud!
