Scholarships of Excellence in honor of Bill and Ruth Collins
Since our first recital in 1977, we have recognized students for their outstanding effort and dedication to the studio.
Many of these awards are now accompanied by scholarships. Often times there are many deserving students and it is difficult to choose the recipients.
A few years ago, we began awarding the Scholarships of Excellence - in honor of Bill and Ruth Collins.
Bill (Chris' dad) was extremely dedicated to the studio in every way. From helping in the office, to fitting shoes, to working backstage at recitals, Bill worked with the students and loved to watch their growth.
Ruth (Chris' mom) never missed any performance - or rehearsal for that matter. She loved nothing more than to see the students perform.
The students that receive the Scholarships of Excellence must be committed and dedicated in all classes and be leaders within the studio. In addition to making us proud in the dance rooms, the scholarship winners must also be entertainers - someone that would have given Ruth Collins a joy to watch.
After receiving these honors, it is expected that the honorees continue to excel, and show complete dedication to the studio. They should inspire other dancers to reach for this goal in the future.
In June 2015, Alex Mills, Tehya Moss, and Amani Muntu were awarded the Scholarships of the Excellence. We are extremely proud of these deserving students, and are delighted that they serve as such great role models at CCDS.
