On June 25, 2006, Megan Savary became
the 30th student to earn the crown as the Chris Collins Dance
Studio's student of the year.
"Megan exemplifies what I look for in a Student of the Year,"
said studio Director Chris Collins. "She
is not just a great dancer and great performer but also a wonderful
role model to all of our younger students. I have watched her grow
up in our studio since she was four years old and she has always
been passionate about dance. Megan strives to be her best in
everything she does and is always pushing herself and accepting new
challenges. She is an inspiration to our young students
who she now
assists as a teacher."
Joining Chris in recognizing Megan was
2005 Student of the Year, Samantha Doyle, who added, "I was
thrilled to be the one to crown Megan as Student of the Year.
She is such a wonderful person and a beautiful dancer. I couldn't
think of a better way to end my time at Chris Collins Dance Studio
than to present this award to her. She is so
deserving.
Congratulations, Megan!"
Asked how she felt about her
selection, Megan commented, "I'm proud and honored to represent the
studio as Student of the Year. I'm also very thankful for all
the support I've received from my teachers, my family and my fellow
dancers."
A rising junior and honor student at Hayfield Secondary
School, Megan has danced a dozen years at Chris Collins
Dance Studio, where she has received a number of honors, including
the 2004 Performer of the Year award. When she isn't dancing as a member of the Chris
Collins Senior Dance Company, Megan can likely be found side-by-side
with younger CCDS students -- sharing her trademark smile and love
of dance with them as a student
teacher. Working with children is a role that suits Megan
nicely, as she aspires to pursue a career as an
elementary school teacher following college.
Just days after being named Student of
the Year, Megan's next dance adventure began, as she hit the road for her second summer as a Dance
Caravan Kid -- gaining a taste of life as a touring dancer and
teaching assistant. From Cincinnati, to Myrtle Beach, to New
York and to Orlando, Megan concluded her tour just hours --
literally -- before rejoining her studio friends on board a Royal
Caribbean performance cruise to Bermuda.
As Student of the Year, Megan also
received the Bill Collins Scholarship, which earns her free class
tuition for the next year.
It was an exciting way to cap off an
exciting year of dance for Megan, who already has her eyes set on
the year ahead. "I can't wait to see who I'll pass the crown
along to as the 2007 Student of the Year." |
